INS-Basic Study: "The Interrelation between Consensus Standards and Patents"

Survey on standardisation and patenting behaviour of companies

Ladies and Gentlemen,

In the course of the initiative "Innovation with Norms and Standards" of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology of Germany (BMWi), a variety of projects regarding standardization is carried out, accompanied by scientific basic research studies. The basic research study "The Interrelation between Consensus Standards and Patents" pursues the goal of examining the relationship between patenting and the participation in the development of standards. This study is based on a survey among standardizing and patenting companies in Germany that was recently completed.

To investigate the potential findings of this study on the European level, the survey is conducted among UK companies in cooperation with the BSI British Standards Institution.

Your participation allows you to articulate your reasons for and against participation in the standardization process, so that institutions like the BSI British Standards Institution may adjust to your concerns and will consider them.
Moreover, your responses provide valuable support for the assessment of possible policy recommendations, which may also be of benefit to your company.

Answering the questionnaire will take about ca. 20-25 minutes On request, we will gladly send you a summary of the main findings of the study.

All your information is kept strictly anonymous and will not be disclosed to third parties and are used only in the context of the project proposal.

Thank you very much for your support!
